HEIC to JPG

🔒 Runs locallyImages & files

Convert iPhone HEIC/HEIF photos to JPG or PNG, in batches.

iPhones save photos as HEIC by default, and Chrome, Firefox, Windows and many websites can't open that format. This tool decodes HEIC and HEIF images in your browser with a WebAssembly decoder and re-saves them as JPG or PNG. Add several at once — one photo downloads directly, and multiple photos come back together as a .zip. The decoder (~1.9 MB) is fetched once on first use, then cached. No photo is uploaded.

How to use

  1. Add one or more .heic / .heif photos (the format iPhones save by default).
  2. Pick JPG or PNG, and set the JPG quality if you want.
  3. Click "Convert & download" — a single photo downloads directly, several download together as a .zip.

Common use scenarios

  • Making iPhone photos openable on a Windows PC or an older program.
  • Preparing HEIC photos for a website or form that only accepts JPG or PNG.
  • Converting a batch of holiday photos in one go.
  • Sending a photo to someone whose device can't display HEIC.

How we verify HEIC to JPG

What to expect from the converted images.

Runs entirely in your browser

A WebAssembly build of libheif does the decoding on your device. The first conversion downloads that decoder; after that it's instant. Very large batches use more memory since every image is decoded locally.

You get a plain still image

Live Photo motion, depth maps and portrait-mode data aren't carried over — the output is a single flattened JPG or PNG. Most photo detail and the embedded orientation are preserved.

JPG vs PNG

JPG is smaller and right for photos; the quality slider trades size against detail. PNG is lossless and larger — pick it only if you specifically need it.

Before you rely on the result

  • The files you added are actually .heic or .heif (not already JPG).
  • You've chosen JPG (with a sensible quality) or PNG for the output.
  • For a large batch, you've allowed time and expect a .zip download.
  • You've opened a converted image to confirm it looks right and is rotated correctly.

Who this is for

  • iPhone users who need their photos to work on Windows or older software.
  • Anyone uploading photos to a site or form that rejects HEIC.
  • People sharing photos with someone on a non-Apple device.
  • Anyone with a folder of HEIC files to convert in bulk.

Real-world examples

Photos for a Windows PC

Someone AirDrops HEIC photos to a friend's Windows laptop, then converts them to JPG so they open in the built-in photo viewer.

Upload to a form

A person converts a HEIC ID photo to JPG because the government portal's upload field only accepts JPG and PNG.

Bulk holiday album

A traveller converts a hundred HEIC shots to JPG at once and gets a single .zip to drop into a shared album.

Limitations

  • Decoding happens in your browser with a WebAssembly decoder (~1.9 MB, downloaded once) — very large batches use more memory and time.
  • Live Photos and depth/portrait data are not preserved — you get a plain still image.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't my computer open HEIC already?

HEIC is efficient but not universally supported — Windows needs an add-on, and Chrome and Firefox don't decode it at all. Converting to JPG or PNG makes the photo open everywhere.

Will I lose photo quality?

Converting to PNG is lossless. JPG uses compression, but at a high quality setting the difference is hard to see; the slider lets you choose.

Can it convert JPG back to HEIC?

No — this tool only goes from HEIC/HEIF to JPG or PNG.

Are my photos uploaded to convert them?

No. Decoding runs in your browser with WebAssembly; the photos never leave your device.
