GPA calculator
Calculate a credit-weighted GPA on a 4.3 or 4.0 scale.
The GPA calculator takes a list of courses with credits and letter grades, converts each grade to grade points on either a 4.3 or 4.0 scale, and computes GPA as Σ(credits × grade point) ÷ Σcredits — with total credits and quality points shown alongside.

How to use
- Add a row per course with its credits and letter grade.
- Switch between the 4.3 and 4.0 scales — only A+ differs between them (4.3 vs 4.0); every other grade is the same.
- GPA = Σ(credits × grade point) ÷ Σcredits.
Common use scenarios
- Calculating a term or cumulative GPA from a course list.
- Checking how a specific course's grade affects overall GPA.
- Converting a GPA between the 4.3 and 4.0 scales for a transcript or application.
- Projecting a future GPA by adding hypothetical course grades.

How we verify GPA calculator
How to confirm the calculated GPA matches your actual transcript logic.
Only A+ differs between the 4.3 and 4.0 scales
Switching scales changes A+ from 4.3 to 4.0 grade points; every other letter grade maps to the same grade point value on both scales — so if you don't have any A+ grades in your list, switching scales won't change your calculated GPA at all.
Zero or negative credits are ignored, with a notice — blank credits are ignored silently
A row with 0 or negative credits is excluded from the calculation and flagged with a notice so you know it happened; a row with a blank credits field is also excluded, but without a separate notice — check that every course row has its credits filled in correctly.
GPA shows "--" rather than 0 when there's nothing to calculate
If no row has valid positive credits, the tool displays "--" instead of a misleading 0.00, since a GPA of zero would look like a real (very low) result rather than "no data."
Before you rely on the result
- You've selected the scale (4.3 or 4.0) that matches your school's actual grading system.
- Every course row has its credits filled in — a blank credits field is silently skipped.
- You've checked the notice for any rows with 0 or negative credits that got excluded.
- If GPA shows "--", you've confirmed at least one row has valid positive credits.
Who this is for
- Students calculating a term or cumulative GPA from their course list.
- Anyone checking how a specific course's grade affects overall GPA.
- People converting a GPA between the 4.3 and 4.0 scales for an application.
- Students projecting a future GPA with hypothetical grades.
Real-world examples
End-of-term GPA calculation
A student enters every course from the term with its credits and final letter grade to calculate the term GPA before it appears on their transcript.
Scale conversion for an application
A student applying somewhere that expects a 4.0-scale GPA enters their courses and switches from the 4.3 to the 4.0 scale to get the converted figure.
Projecting next term's impact
A student wanting to know how a rough grade would affect their cumulative GPA adds a hypothetical course row alongside their real courses to see the projected effect.
Limitations
- Rows with a blank credits field are silently skipped; rows with 0 or negative credits are skipped too, but shown as a notice.
- GPA shows "--" (not 0) when there are no valid rows to calculate from.
Frequently asked questions
What's actually different between the 4.3 and 4.0 scales?
Only the A+ grade point value changes — 4.3 on one scale and 4.0 on the other. Every other letter grade has the same grade point value on both scales.
What happens if I leave a course's credits blank?
That row is silently skipped and doesn't count toward the GPA — make sure every course you want included has a credits value entered.
Why does a course show up in a notice instead of just being calculated?
Rows with 0 or negative credits are excluded and specifically flagged with a notice, since that's different from a blank field and worth double-checking wasn't a data-entry mistake.
Why does GPA show "--" instead of a number?
That means no row currently has valid positive credits to calculate from — add at least one course with a positive credits value and a letter grade.
