How we verify Merge PDF

How to confirm the merge preserves your intended page order and page count.

Check the file order before merging

After adding files, use the ↑ / ↓ buttons to arrange them in the order you want them to appear. The list order at the moment you click "Merge & download" is exactly the order pages appear in the output file.

Confirm total page count adds up

Open the merged PDF and check its page count equals the sum of the page counts of every input file. If a file was password-protected, it fails to read rather than silently merging a blank page.

Re-open the result before deleting originals

Open the downloaded PDF and skim through it once — page order, orientation, and content should all match the source files — before you delete or archive the originals.

Before you rely on the result

  • At least 2 PDF files were added.
  • The file order in the list matches the order you want in the final PDF.
  • None of the source files are password-protected (those can't be read).
  • The downloaded file's page count matches the sum of all input files.

Who this is for

  • Anyone who needs to combine several scanned or exported PDFs into one file before sharing.
  • Office workers assembling reports, proposals, or invoice bundles from separate documents.
  • Students combining assignment pages or research excerpts into one submission.
  • Anyone who wants this done locally, without uploading potentially sensitive documents to a server.

Real-world examples

Monthly expense report

An admin assistant scans five separate receipts as individual PDFs, then merges them into one file in date order before submitting to accounting.

Job application packet

A job seeker merges their cover letter, resume, and portfolio PDF into a single file so the whole application arrives as one attachment.

Contract with signed addendum

A freelancer merges the original signed contract with a newly signed addendum, keeping the addendum as the final pages for a clean audit trail.

Limitations

  • Needs at least 2 files; encrypted/password-protected PDFs can't be read.
  • Very large files may be slow or run into your browser's memory limits, since everything runs locally.

Frequently asked questions

Does the file order in the upload list matter?

Yes — the merged PDF's page order follows the list order exactly. Use the ↑ / ↓ buttons to arrange files before clicking merge.

Can I merge a password-protected PDF?

No. Encrypted or password-protected PDFs can't be read by this tool, so they'll fail to load rather than merging incorrectly.

Is there a limit to how many files I can merge?

There's no hard-coded limit, but very large files or a large number of files may be slow, since everything is processed in your browser's memory.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The merge happens entirely in your browser using the pdf-lib library — your files never leave your device.
