Split PDF
Split by page ranges, or break every page into its own file.
Split PDF takes one PDF and either breaks it into several files by page range (each range you list becomes its own file) or explodes it into one file per page — downloading a single file directly, or a .zip when there's more than one output.

One file at a time
How to use
- Upload one PDF file.
- Choose "Split by range" and list the page ranges you want (each range becomes its own file), or choose "Every page separately".
- Click "Split & download" — a single file downloads directly, or a .zip if there are multiple outputs.
Common use scenarios
- Breaking a scanned multi-chapter book into one file per chapter.
- Pulling a specific page range out of a long report to share separately.
- Splitting a batch-scanned stack of individual forms into one PDF per form.
- Separating a combined invoice PDF back into per-customer files.

How we verify Split PDF
How to confirm the page ranges you entered map to the right output files.
Range syntax and what each range becomes
Each comma-separated range (e.g. "1-3,4-6,7") becomes its own output file. A single number like "7" produces a one-page file. Ranges must stay within the document's actual page count, shown next to the upload.
"Every page separately" mode
Switching to this mode ignores the range field entirely and produces one file per page in the document, packaged as a .zip if there's more than one page.
Check the download: single file vs. .zip
If your ranges produce exactly one output file, it downloads directly as a .pdf. Two or more outputs download as a single .zip — extract it to see the individual files.
Before you rely on the result
- The uploaded PDF's page count (shown on screen) covers every page number you referenced.
- Each range is comma-separated correctly, e.g. "1-3,4-6,7" not "1-3;4-6;7".
- You picked the right mode — range-based splitting vs. every page separately.
- If a .zip downloaded, you've extracted and spot-checked a couple of the files inside.
Who this is for
- Anyone who needs to pull specific pages out of a longer PDF without editing the whole document.
- Teachers separating a combined worksheet packet into individual handouts.
- Office workers splitting a batch-scanned stack of forms into one file per person.
- Anyone archiving a long document as separate, more manageable chapter files.
Real-world examples
Splitting a scanned exam booklet
A teacher scans a stack of 30 student exams as one PDF, then uses "Every page separately" to get one file per student to grade independently.
Extracting a chapter to share
A researcher needs to send just chapter 3 (pages 40-58) of a long PDF report to a colleague, without sending the entire document.
Un-merging a combined invoice run
An accountant receives one combined PDF of 12 invoices and splits it by page range into 12 separate files, one per client, for individual filing.
Limitations
- Page numbers must be within range of the uploaded document.
- "Every page separately" on a very long document can take a while and produce a large .zip.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I enter a page number beyond the document's length?
The tool reports that it couldn't read or process that range — check the page count shown after upload and keep your ranges within it.
Can ranges overlap, like "1-5" and "3-8"?
Yes, ranges are independent of each other — overlapping ranges just mean some pages appear in more than one output file.
Why did I get a .zip instead of a PDF?
Whenever your ranges (or "every page separately" mode) produce more than one output file, they're bundled into a single .zip download instead of multiple separate downloads.
Does splitting work on scanned (image-based) PDFs?
Yes — splitting only rearranges pages at the PDF structure level, so it works the same whether pages contain real text or scanned images.
