How we verify Compare PDFs
How to understand what this comparison does and doesn't catch.
Compares text content, not visual layout
This compares the extracted text of each page — a page that's been reformatted (different font, spacing, columns) but has identical wording will show no differences.
Only pages with changes are shown
Pages where the extracted text is identical between the two files are skipped in the results, so you only review what actually changed.
Works page-by-page in order
Page 1 of the first file is compared against page 1 of the second, and so on — inserting or removing a whole page shifts every following page's comparison.
Before you rely on the result
- You've uploaded the correct "original" and "modified" files in the right slots.
- You've reviewed every page flagged with differences.
- You understand this compares text, not visual formatting, if layout-only changes matter to you.
Who this is for
- Anyone reviewing changes between two versions of a contract or agreement.
- People comparing drafts of a report to see what was edited.
- Anyone verifying a final document matches an approved version except for expected changes.
Real-world examples
Reviewing contract redlines
Before signing a revised contract, someone compares it against the previous version to see exactly which clauses changed, without reading the whole document twice.
Auditing a document for unexpected edits
A reviewer compares a submitted final report against the last approved draft to confirm no unauthorized changes were made beyond what was discussed.
Limitations
- Compares extracted text only, not visual layout — a reformatted page with identical wording shows no differences.
Frequently asked questions
Will this catch formatting changes, like a different font?
No — it compares extracted text content only, so purely visual changes with identical wording won't show up as differences.
What if a page was inserted or removed entirely?
Since pages are compared in order by position, an inserted or removed page will shift the comparison for every page after it.
Is my document uploaded to a server?
No — both PDFs are read and compared entirely in your browser.
