Fill PDF form

🔒 Runs locallyPDF tools

Type into a flat PDF's blanks and download the filled copy.

The Fill PDF form tool opens a PDF that has no interactive fields — a form scanned or exported from Word, for example — renders each page in the browser, and lets you drop text boxes and tick marks anywhere on the page, drag them into position, and size them. On download it draws that text onto a fresh copy of the PDF with pdf-lib. Latin text uses a built-in font; Chinese text embeds a common-character subset of Noto Sans that is fetched once, the first time you type a CJK character. Nothing is uploaded — the original file, the text you type, and the finished PDF all stay in your browser.

✅ Every tool is free — no sign-in needed.

How to use

  1. Upload a PDF form.
  2. Click "Text", then click on the page where a blank is — a box appears, type your answer.
  3. Use "Tick" for checkboxes; drag any field to nudge it into place; select a field and use A− / A+ to size it.
  4. Use "Sign" to draw a signature, or "Image" to stamp a photo/logo — click the page afterwards to place it, then drag its corner handle to resize.
  5. Use "Pencil" or "Highlight" and drag across the page to draw; "Ellipse" / "Rectangle" draw a shape the same way.
  6. "Undo" / "Redo" step back and forward through your edits.
  7. Click "Download filled PDF" — everything is drawn onto a new copy, entirely in your browser.

Common use scenarios

  • Filling in a printed application or booking form that arrived as a plain PDF.
  • Adding your name, date and a signature line to a contract or letter before sending it back.
  • Ticking option boxes and entering numbers on a checklist or intake sheet.
  • Completing a form on a phone or laptop without printing, hand-writing and scanning it.

How we verify Fill PDF form

How to check the filled PDF came out the way you intended.

Text is stamped on, not stored as a field

The output is a normal PDF with your text baked into the page — it opens and prints the same everywhere, but it is not an interactive form and the text can't be edited back out without an editor.

Positioning is manual and fixed

Each box stays exactly where you place it, measured as a fraction of the page, so it lands in the same spot regardless of screen size. There's no automatic detection of where the blanks are, and long text won't wrap to fit a narrow space — shrink the font or split it across boxes.

Chinese characters depend on the font subset

The embedded font covers roughly twelve thousand common Traditional and Simplified characters plus Latin letters and punctuation. A very rare character (an uncommon surname, say) may be dropped — the tool lists any characters it had to leave out after you download.

Before you rely on the result

  • Every blank you need is covered by a text box with the right answer typed in.
  • Checkboxes are ticked in the correct positions.
  • Font sizes look right against the printed labels — not overflowing the lines.
  • You've re-opened the downloaded PDF to confirm the text sits where you expect on each page.
  • If the tool reported missing characters, you've checked whether any of them mattered.

Who this is for

  • Anyone who receives forms as flat PDFs and would rather not print, hand-fill and scan them.
  • Office workers completing internal application, booking or approval forms.
  • People adding a name, date or signature image to a document before returning it.
  • Students and teachers filling in worksheets or administrative forms.

Real-world examples

Venue or facility booking form

A member fills in the applicant name, dates, contact number, purpose and attendee list on a booking form that came as a Word-exported PDF, then downloads it to email back.

Contract sign-off

Someone adds their printed name and the date next to a signature line on a one-page agreement and sends the filled PDF back the same day.

Checklist or intake sheet

A person ticks the relevant option boxes and enters a few figures on an intake sheet, keeping a clean typed copy instead of a photographed hand-written one.

Limitations

  • This adds text and marks on top of the page — it doesn't turn the PDF into an interactive form.
  • Chinese text embeds a common-character font subset (~2.5 MB, downloaded once when you first type a CJK character); very rare characters may be left out.
  • Positioning is manual — there's no automatic field detection, and text won't reflow if it's longer than the space.
  • Freehand strokes can be moved or deleted but not reshaped once drawn.

Frequently asked questions

My PDF already has clickable fields — should I use this?

If the form is already fillable, your PDF reader can fill it directly and you don't need this tool. Fill PDF form is for flat PDFs with no interactive fields.

Why does typing Chinese trigger a download?

The library that writes text into the PDF has no Chinese glyphs built in, so a ~2.5 MB font subset is fetched the first time you type a CJK character. It's cached by the browser after that, and forms with only Latin text never load it.

Can I add a handwritten signature?

This version places typed text and tick marks. For a signature, type your name on the signature line, or add the image separately in your PDF reader.

Is my form uploaded anywhere?

No. The pages are rendered with pdf.js and the text is written with pdf-lib, both entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your device.
